Karen Kirkwood/Ewan Robertson

A collaborative drawing project

A cumulative drawing process where images are worked separately, swapped and re-worked over and over until ‘a state of agreement’ is reached.

The final work combines the facets of each individual practice and allows an exploration of the image and mark making out-with each individual’s practice and realm of experience.

The term Roche Lobe Variables relates to stellar and planetary material exchanged between stars in a binary system. The lobe is the physical extent to which a star’s gravity can hold its material.

The project began in 2003 and is on-going there are 200+ pieces.

Ewan Robertson is an Edinburgh based Sculptor. Ewan works as a lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art.

Exhibitions

Alight, SSA/VAS Exhibition at Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh 2019

Each time that we exhibit these works we configure them in a slightly different way to accomodate the space. We have deveolped a hanging system which involves fixing the work directly onto the wall then placing sheets of glass over them secured by bespoke pins.
